Portraits

I find it thrilling when the face starts to emerge from the preparatory work and becomes a living image on the canvas.

I tend to paint portraits in oils as the flexibility in overpainting and the ease in achieving subtle changes in tone suits my technique.

I paint mostly from photographs as people do not often have the time needed to sit for their portraits, but I am always happy when they do, and I can paint from life.

I've loved drawing and painting all my life. Read a bit more about me and Victor Bates Art.
