Buildings

Architecture was my first love and has been an enduring passion.  I like the satisfying shape and texture of a structure: its solidity, the play of light on the surfaces and the wider significance to the person it's for.  Painting a building is the closest thing an artist gets to feeling the satisfaction of actually building it.

I paint buildings mostly in watercolour for its unbeatable light and precision, but I have found charcoal pencils work very well too for a black and white image, and oils for monumental structures exposed to the elements.

The ideal gift

A commissioned painting of a special building makes a memorable gift; a painting of the church where a couple marries as wedding gift, or a much-loved family home as a milestone anniversary or birthday gift.
